New Ways for Africa continues its impactful work in Malawi with the recent drilling of 14 boreholes in Nkhotakota, and Salima districts. This initiative is part of an ongoing program that began in 2014 and has successfully installed a total of 151 boreholes, benefitting close to 60,000 people.
The latest boreholes provide clean and safe drinking water to approximately 750 families, including 1,800 primary school students. This project has drastically reduced the time spent collecting water, allowing women and children to engage in productive activities while significantly improving health by lowering instances of waterborne diseases. Many families have also started kitchen gardens, enhancing food security and creating new income sources.
Community members have formed water committees to maintain the boreholes, fostering collaboration and a sense of ownership among residents. The education landscape has improved as school attendance rises, with students benefitting from better health and more time for learning.
